Each time I introduce a new band, before I even say the name, they shout, “Is it BTS?” I typically blow them off and launch into my lesson on MY favorites like The Ramones and Bikini Kill. This time, I tricked them and pretended to blow the suggestion off, but then I played the video for “Butter” and they went BONKERS! The dance floor was electric that day, let me tell ya.

I couldn’t let the boys have all the fun, though, so I also introduced Girls Generation, which they equally loved. What we noticed, especially with BTS is how free the performers are with self-expression. Students loved the idea of boys having pink hair and dangly earrings and also how natural the girls look, without all the eccentric eyeliner and such.
